The Getty Partnership

The Getty Partnership & Arts Integration
At ICEF, we believe learning in core subjects is enhanced and strengthened through the arts. We engaged in a five-year partnership with The J. Paul Getty Museum. This partnership primarily focused on arts integration and teacher training. Educational Specialists from The Getty prepared and led quarterly teacher workshops, where our Arts teachers collaborated with select single subject teachers to implement arts integrated lessons in elementary, middle, and high school History, Science, and English.

This series of meetings and workshops led to the creation of our trimester based ELA Arts integrated lessons in TK-2nd grade and middle school, which are implemented annually as a core curriculum. Students create art works connecting to their writing projects in elementary and in middle school students kick-off each Novel Unit with an arts integrated project. Several of our high school students have participated in and been featured in The Getty’s teen app, Unshuttered, a platform to highlight social issues through photography. Upon completing this Getty Teen Program, one of our highschool alumni has continued to work with the Getty as a freelance photographer.
