Principal's Message

Dear ICEF Vista Academy Students and Families,

 

I am both excited and honored to start another year with you as your principal! Although this year will look a little different, I am optimistic that our strong community will continue to make the tremendous sacrifices we saw in the Spring to ensure that our students learn at the highest levels. These times are unprecedented, scary, and unpredictable, but one thing is constant: Everyday that I lead Vista, I am humbled by a shared purpose and dedication, and a relentless commitment to making sure ICEF Vista scholars succeed at the highest levels.

 

Last year, we had a very successful year. We saw an abundance of academic growth as represented in our Fastbridge internal testing results, and met our reclassification rate goal for English Learners from the 18-19 school year. Our elementary school was awarded with the California Distinguished Schools Award for our program on Balanced Literacy, and was awarded at the California Adventure Hotel at Disneyland by State Superintendent of Public Instruction – Tony Thurmond. This year, our middle school was the recipient of the Accelerate Grant through Great Public Schools Now (GPSN) - for our project on Virtual Learning Habits. Through this grant, we have been able to provide 6 parent workshops for families on how to support their students during distance learning. Additionally the funds have allowed us to purchase learning materials for every student to help prepare them for a successful year.

 

During the 2020-2021 school year, we plan to continue our fun events, whether virtual or in person. We look forward to celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Wellness week, College Day, Career Day, and High School Night! Additionally, we can’t wait to see you all as we continue our clubs like student council, art club, Future Nurses of America, and so many more. Our goal is to continue to provide our students and families with as many learning opportunities as possible, despite the Pandemic. We encourage your participation in ALL of these events! I look forward to learning with and from all of you this year through our continued family events. I encourage you all to take advantage of our monthly Coffees with the Principal, our Parent information nights, and our family engagement events!

 

We will continue to strengthen our educational program so that it advances and challenges our students academically, while also making sure that we are working to engage them in their learning. Distance learning is not easy for anyone, but we hope that through streamlined and open communication, Chromebooks and supplies for every student, and hotspots for every family that needs one, we can continue learning at high quality levels EVERYDAY. I am inspired by the spirit, collaboration, and dedication I see to student learning. Together, with our persistent commitment, we can continue to do what we do best: achieve the highest level of academic excellence for OUR students as they transform into scholars.

Estimados estudiantes y familias de ICEF Vista Academy,

 

¡Estoy emocionada y honrada de comenzar otro año con ustedes como su directora! Aunque este año se verá un poco diferente, soy optimista de que nuestra sólida comunidad seguirá haciendo los tremendous sacrificios que vimos en la primavera para asegurar que nuestros estudiantes aprendan al más alto nivel. Estos tiempos son sin precedentes, aterradores e impredecibles, pero una cosa es constante: todos los días que dirijo Vista, me siento honrado por un propósito y dedicación compartidos, y un compromise incansable de asegurar que los estudiantes de ICEF Vista tengan éxito en los niveles más altos.

 

El año pasado tuvimos un año muy exitoso. Vimos una abundancia de crecimiento académico como se representa en los resultados de nuestras pruebas internas de Fastbridge y cumplimos con nuestra meta de índice de reclasificación para los estudiantes de inglés del año escolar 18-19. Nuestra escuela primaria fue galardonada con el Premio de Escuelas Distinguidas de California por nuestro programa de Alfabetización Equilibrada, y fue otorgada en el Hotel California Adventure en Disneyland por el Superintendente de Instrucción Pública del Estado, Tony Thurmond. Este año, nuestra escuela

intermedia recibió la beca Accelerate Grant a través de Great Public Schools Now (GPSN), para nuestro proyecto sobre Hábitos de aprendizaje virtuales. A través de esta subvención, hemos podido proporcionar 6 talleres para padres para familias sobre cómo apoyar a sus estudiantes durante el aprendizaje a distancia. Además, los fondos nos han permitido comprar materiales de aprendizaje para cada estudiante para ayudarlos a prepararse para el éxito este año.

 

Este año, planeamos continuar con nuestros divertidos eventos, ya sean virtuales o en persona. ¡Esperamos celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, el Mes de la Historia Afroamericana, la Semana del Bienestar, el Día Universitario, el Día de la Carrera y la Noche de la Escuela Secundaria! Además, estamos ansiosos por verlos a todos mientras continuamos con nuestros clubes como el consejo estudiantil, el club de arte, Future Nurses of America y muchos más. Nuestro objetivo es continuar brindando a nuestros estudiantes y familias tantas oportunidades de aprendizaje como sea posible, a pesar de la pandemia. ¡Alentamos su participación en TODOS estos eventos! Espero aprender con y de todos ustedes este año a través de nuestros continuos eventos familiares. Los animo a todos a que aprovechen nuestros cafés mensuales con el director, nuestras noches de información para padres y nuestros eventos de participación familiar.

 

Continuaremos fortaleciendo nuestro programa educativo para que avance y desafíe a nuestros estudiantes académicamente, al mismo tiempo que nos aseguramos de que estamos trabajando para involucrarnos en su aprendizaje. El aprendizaje a distancia no es fácil para nadie, pero esperamos que a través de una comunicación fluida y abierta, Chromebooks y suministros para cada estudiante, y puntos de acceso para cada familia que lo necesite, podamos continuar aprendiendo a niveles de alta calidad TODOS LOS DÍAS. Me inspira el espíritu, la colaboración y la dedicación que veo en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes. Juntos, con nuestro compromiso persistente, podemos continuar haciendo lo que major sabemos hacer: lograr el más alto nivel de excelencia académica para nuestros estudiantes mientras se transforman en académicos.
