ICEF and the Power of Artistic Expression ​

George Balanchine was a neoclassical American choreographer who understood profound effect of the arts on the human soul when he said, "See the music. Hear the dance."  At ICEF Public Schools, we believe in the power of artistic expression. Select ICEF schools offer courses in music and dance, including Vista Academy's elementary-level chorus class. The Vista Choir performs at school site events and annually at our ICEF Arts Show. 

View Park Preparatory Elementary offers sequential dance classes to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students practice dance on a weekly basis in a designated dance room and are provided several opportunities to perform in and outside of school throughout the year. Select ICEF school sites also offer weekly instruction in dance during the school day. 

At the high school level, ICEF View Park Preparatory High School offers UC approved classes in Digital Music Production and Global Awareness Through Hip Hop. Our high school also offers extended and diversified music participation opportunities through the after-school program and clubs. Students may elect to participate in a daily student-led drum line, while others study and play contemporary music as part of a student led band directed by Sound Art, a non-profit music education group. Their instructors teach students to play the guitar, bass, keyboard, and sing. The high school also offers students the opportunity to participate in Dance via their robust after school program.  Both the Dance and Step Teams meet regularly after-school, and perform at ICEF events. 

​All students participating in our extracurricular performing arts program are instructed in lessons for chorus and dance. Lead actors receive instruction from professional voice coaches and learn to sing with the accompaniment of professional musicians. In this program, student performances take place in both community and professional theaters. We proudly hold our annual spring musical at the Nate Holden Theater. Dance-inspired students work with experienced professional choreographers and practice in a formal dance studio at ICEF ‘s Leadership Academy. Choreographers teach a variety of techniques ranging from ballet and modern dance to jazz and hip-hop.
