hi my name is Ayla Lopez WIS call Adam Kyra I said finnovationz Elementary in Los Angeles with principal Mickey thank you so much for having us. Thank you we appreciate your being here thank you. Would you mind kind of going into your mission here I said sure we are looking to create a positive learning environment for our students someplace where they can come on the failsafe fill a part of a school community and being met by welcoming teachers who are providing Innovative and a rigorous curriculum and so we just really like to engage all of our stakeholders are parents are our students even of course our staff of Our Community Partners and that's what you like to do each and every day for our students that's awesome you have a really beautiful campus and kind of what I've seen two is that you're able to speak to those different aspects of the students write with your junior tennis court your music classes would you mind getting into that a little bit more yeah so we do it one of the things that we pride ourselves on being able to offer our students at several what we call elective so they are able to participate in PE and art than art class and I will have a stem program that we bring here as well as well as a music class and we have a variety of offerings for our students in the hopes of engaging them academically but also the whole child in general right that's awesome I'm going to kind of going to get the learning models that guys use within a classroom yes and our learning is really for the most part it's directed to the student we're really data-driven for we look at our data and we look at the needs of our students and we're able to meet those needs through differentiated instruction but also small group instruction and so we understand that students especially our students need a variety of things and they need different things that's how we tried to address those needs in those small group settings so that the students are able to get exactly what they need regular oh I believe it's 12 students right in the classroom rtk program we do have 12 students and so in one class it is a combo class so we have about 13 Kinder and then 12pk so we do try and keep our numbers low so that we are able to address the needs of the students and that's something that we find it's beneficial of course right and then for this, classes to it's it's one teacher for 44 year-old right in the other teacher for kindergarten teacher and an instructional aide that dedicated to that class to support both the t.k. and Kendra students and next year we're looking to have a separate teacher party K students and then one bartenders to 100% going to just the way that you're keeping your younger younger keto safe especially with covid radiation in different things like that yes and I won't say that is not difficult sometimes because I just love to be around one another and play we pride ourselves with a with a with a small school with a big because we're the smallest of the ice that's cool then so we are few more family-oriented we know are far from our families they know us so they do like to it you know I gather at times but we really do impress upon them the space t a safety around are with our covid regulations of social distancing staying separate we practice that with lining up I'm definitely having all of our PPE supplies with our sanitizer they know how to wipe off your Dad's getting that things like that and it's also the death Shields that we have in the classroom that was something that we surveyed our parents about it and wanted to know if they would feel more comfortable with the dishes and they did and so we we provided those for our our students as well write all so just kind of taking two parents and I'm bringing in every all the support systems to nurture that whole child exactly if we all would that's that's part of our vision here to include all stakeholders and you kind of going to whatever like two or three things that that you guys apart from other elementary schools in the area yeah it was definitely the electives that I mentioned and having those offerings for our students knowing that it is more their and they're more than to the academics we know that that's our primary reason for being here but we also like to we know that the electives like the Arts in the music and the PE and the stem provide other things for our students and we want to make sure that we have that but also I would say a lot of the school events that we have we have a variety of school by the events that we offer again help to strengthen our students things like a oratorical contest spelling bees we have black history program we have a winter program we have fashion shows we have career days so a lot of extra school-wide events that helped bring both the staff and Community together and of course our families in our students as well that's very interesting actually that you mentioned the career day so it. Are those like parents coming in with Ash from the community with his that look like we do so we have a variety of people we offer out for our family is of course if you have a skill that you want to come in at our career that you want to come in and share with us we welcomed them of course first and then we also reach out to the community we always have normally the fire department the police department that come out in prison charge do they know that fire truck so any opportunity that you know we reach out of core 2 are even our staff our staff have you know either family or friends that have an interesting career that they would like to come and share with the students so we reach out to all our partners to support with our career day that's awesome that's really cool and something that she was talking about in something I'm sure you take pride in his how you really set students up to think about college even at this young age that something on the show was mentioning Creek it is that you took the students to you I see that you've been to go swimming someone who trying to expose them I'm definitely to college and a lot of people can learn what they're interested in and what I will Express their thoughts on and when given the opportunity to do so so we let them know about college we just actually had an HBCU day historically black colleges and universities day so they came with their different shirts and gear on and then we also just college is just a thing that we push throughout the year with our students. Of development that you guys do that so early on so for those people who are going to be looking around wanting to visit the campus how can I find you guys to graphically yeah so we are in the Vermont square Community which is part of the South Los Angeles area I'm not too far USB right around the corner which is why we had a swimming program there I'm also downtown LA not too far from there so we have a lot of offerings around here just as far as the community offerings with various parts in libraries and of course eateries and things of that yeah we're we're I say we're in the heart of l a y n i c e f p s dot-org ice FPS.
